Message: wonderful SD establishment--definitely try the mussel bisque. This local spot could use a remodel but don't let that stop you from trying the food. Great fun before/after the theatre

Message: "The food and presentation were excellent! The Mussel Bisque, Scallops, Ravioli, and Crab Loaf were all very, very good. The Crème Brule was also excellent. The drink we had (Huevo sp.?) was also very good. It was a very good dining experience."

Message: Beautiful and entertaining post, Jim. Loved the SUV analogy. I, too, can see the comparison of Dobson's to a place Hemingway would have "hung out".
Dobson's has always been an excellent stand-by for consistent food, and has always (long before the martini craze began) made a perfect martini. Thanks for reminding me that I need to visit this fine place again!

Message: Great Lunch, Great Happy hour and GREAT service!!
I have never had a better bartender in San Diego. The service was exceptional, so friendly and comfortable but also polite. This place seems to have a ton of regulars which is always a good sign. I've only had sandwiches and oysters, but both were very good. The wine list is also quite nice and the servers are always willing to make recommendations. The bar, while small, has such a pleasant atmosphere, lots of conversation between the patrons and the guys behind the bar make this old school place the kind of dying breed I'm sad to see disappearing. Lunch or Happy Hour at Dobson's can not possibly disappoint.

Message: Great food...Fantastic Service!
My family and I stayed in the gaslamp district recently and were dissappointed with the many tourist trap restaurant settings... then we found Dobsons. Mr. Dobson greeted us with a wonderful smile and warmth I've not seen in a host/owner in a very long time. He is genuine and gracious. His bartendar was outstanding- we enjoyed him so much we decided to stay at the bar and eat our dinner. The scallops were some of the best I've ever had. Overall great food and truly a wonderful environment. Thank you Mr. Dobson!

No restaurant in San Diego has been more adept at mixing business and pleasure than Dobson's. Since 1984 it's been synonymous with the power lunch, a place where local executives and politicos come to break bread (and wonderful bread it is) and make deals. By day it buzzes with the energy of movers and shakers; in the evening it segues from happy-hour watering hole to sophisticated pre- and post-theater American bistro. Look for menu entries like oven-roasted wild salmon; chicken in Marsala, black fig, and thyme jus; flatiron steak in chimichurri sauce; and the signature mussel bisque.

Message: This classic restaurant attracts the top echelons of the San Diego business and government community, providing traditional food in an inviting atmosphere. The Mussel Bisque is renowned. It is also a popular after work and before theater venue, and it is conveniently located just a few paces away from Horton Plaza. Most of the food is continental, with many dishes exhibiting a lightly French flair. The Rack of Lamb is a toothsome delight.

Message: All restauranteurs could learn a thing or two from Paul Dobson. There's a reason he's been in business for so long: superior customer service. Paul's the kind of guy that welcome's you in and remembers you when you come back. There are hundreds--maybe thousands--of regulars, and somehow he makes you feel special by pouring your usual drink before your butt hits the barstool.
Besides, Dobson's mussel bisque en crote is one of the best things I've ever eaten.

Message: The Blackberry Mojitos were absolultely phenomenal. Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the fabulous bartender who served up this delicious delight, but I will definately be back to Dobson's to find out.
